The 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships will be held at Hisense Arena, Melbourne from 4 - 8 April, 2012.
The UCI Track Cycling World Championships stand at the pinnacle of world track cycling, attracting the best riders from more than 40 countries from across the world. Track Cycling World Championships were first held in 1893 in Chicago and for the following 100 years amateurs and professionals competed in separate events. Since 1993 the two groups have raced together in open races. All riders are selected by their national cycling federation.
Today Cycling Australia has announced the Cyclones team to contest the 2012 UCI Track World Championships being staged in Melbourne from 4 to 8 April. The squad boasts eight defending champions amongst a wealth of experienced campaigners and young talent. A long team of 19 has been named but the men’s track endurance squad will be trimmed by one before the final team of 18 arrives in Melbourne.
The 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships are the most prestigious track cycling event that Melbourne can host. The event has special significance on the international track cycling calendar being the final qualifying event in the lead-up to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
